Terms in the Process of Subtraction

• Minus sign. The subtraction sign, also known as minus sign (-) is the symbol used in subtracting two numbers.
• Equal sign. The equal sign (=) is a mathematical symbol which signifies that either side of the symbol have the same value.
• Minuend. The minuend refers to the number from which the other number is subtracted. In the equation 5-3=2, the number 5 is the minuend.
• Subtrahend. Subtrahend refers to the number, which is to be subtracted from the minuend. In the equation, 5-3=2, the number 3 is the subtrahend.
• Difference. Difference is the final result or answer after subtracting the subtrahend from the minuend. In the equation, 5-3=2, the number 2 is the difference.
