She Lives Without Hands but This Highland Dreamer is a Consistent Honor Student
Sometimes, determination and courage trumps handicaps. Or perhaps, it sometimes is for the person to keep doing what they can in the best of their abilities amidst challenges.
Such is the story of a 13-year-old Grade 7 student from Marilog National High School (MNHS), Marilog, Davao City.
Chim S. Cayot was able to maintain her post as honor student despite living without hands.
DepEd Davao City would even describe her story as somebody whose determination proves that strength is not measured by what one lacks, but by what one chooses with what one has.

Living Without Hands
It is not uncommon for many of us to think that individuals having handicaps are limited. This means, we see them as inferior. But that is not the case in most situations, individuals having disabilities learn to be very adaptable.
They always find solutions on how to do tasks in their own way. It might not be done how regular folks do but they may be able to do it, sometimes more extraordinary.
Further proving that the stereotypes are false.
Chim is one among those who did not allow such handicap to bend her knees down. Yes, she has physical difference that made everyday tasks more demanding, yet she never allowed it to define her limits.
DepEd Davao City shared that Chim does the same things her classmates do such as writing, drawing, cleaning, and even skillfully using a cellphone. She does all these through patience, practice and perseverance.
The journey is not easy. She has experienced bullying at an early age, hearing hurtful words. Despite these, she had chosen silence over anger.
She learned to ignore negativity and protect her peace.

Supportive Family Members
Another factor that made Chim stronger was the constant love and reassurance of her family. They have helped her to learn to fully accept herself and move forward with confidence.
Chim said that her greatest inspiration is her mother who supports her every day, along with other family members who never stops believing in her.
“Magpadayon lang, kay kaya lang ni. Tapos inspiration pud nako akoang Mama na everyday nagasuporta nako,” she said.
Hence, Chim’s story reminds us that true strength comes from the heart.
Her being a consistent honor student is not only a reflection of intelligence but also of discipline and resilience. Her story is an inspiration to many who are learning to believe in herself.
