The Complete Guide to Avail Scholarship from BFAR
Are you interested to take the Bachelor of Science in Fisheries (BSF) degree and is looking for a scholarship program?
If you are, then you’re in luck. That’s because the Philippines’ Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources is offering a scholarship program.
It is called Fisheries Scholarship Program (FSP) and is open to all natural born citizens, who are of good moral character, not more than 25 years of age and whose parent/guardian has been a resident of the municipality for at least six months.
The program provides three (3) scholarship slots for the Fisheries Industry Leaders Grant (FILG), twenty (20) slots for the Fisherfolk Children Educational Grant (FCEG), and three (3) slots for ICC/IPs.

Documentary Requirements for BFAR Scholarship
If you are interested to become a BFAR scholar, you need to prepare the following documents:
- Duly accomplished and signed FSP Application form for the FILG (Annex 2). The application can be downloaded [here]
- Original or Certified True Copy of Birth Certificate issued either by PSA (formerly NSO) or Civil Registrar
- Certified True Copy of Report Card Form 138 or 137 (GWA of last 3 semesters of Senior High School is at least 80%)
- Certification from the School Head that the applicant is a graduate/graduating student with HONORS
- Certification of good moral character from the School Registrar
- Two (2) recent 2×2 pictures taken within the last three (3) months prior to filing of application; colored with white background (photos taken thru mobile phones may be allowed)
- Barangay Residence Certificate

Criteria of Eligibility for BFAR Scholarship
Wishing to avail of the BFAR scholarship program?
Before you start preparing your documents, you must first check if you are eligible to avail of the scholarship program.
Below are the (a) general criteria for BFAR scholarship, (b) criteria for Fisherfolk Children Educational Grant, (c) criteria for Fisherfolk Children Educational Grant, (d) criteria for Fisheries Industry Leaders Grant, and (e) ICC/IP.
General Criteria for BFAR Scholarship
- Must be a natural born Filipino Citizen;
- Any Senior High School graduate or graduating student;
- Not more than 25 years old at the time of the examination;
- Good moral character as certified by the school head/principal;
- Parent(s)/guardian of the applicant must be physically residing in the municipality for at least six (6) months.
Fisherfolk Children Educational Grant (FCEG)
- Must be a natural born Filipino Citizen;
- Any Senior High School graduate or high school graduating student whose parent(s) or guardian is a Registered Fisherfolk (FishR/Mangingisdang Juan);
- Not more than 25 years old at the time of the examination, who has not earned any units in college;
- For high school graduate applicants who completed their Senior High School under the old curriculum, GWA shall not be lower than 80%;
- For Senior High students under K12 curriculum, graduating students GWA of the last 3 immediate preceding semesters of his Senior High School or in any Track shall not be lower than 80% or its equivalent;
- Of good moral character as certified by the School Head/Principal;
- Parent(s) guardian or the applicant must be physically residing in the Municipality of the Region for at least six (6) months;
- Parent(s)/guardian must be a registered municipal fisherfolk duly certified by the Municipal Agriculturist (MAO) or the BFAR Regional Office.

Fisheries Industry Leaders Grant
- Must be a natural born Filipino Citizen;
- Any Senior High School graduate or graduating student;
- Not more than 25 years old at the time of examination, who has not earned any units in college;
- Who belongs to the TOP TEN of his/her graduating class, duly certified by the school head/principal;
- For Senior High School graduate applicants who completed their high school under the old curriculum, the General Weighted Average (GWA) shall not be lower than 80%;
- For graduating students, GWA of the last three immediate preceding semesters of his/her Senior High School in any track shall not be lower than 80% or its equivalent;
- Of good moral character as certified by the school head/principal; and
- Parent(s)/guardian of the applicant must be physically residing in the municipality of the region for at least six (6) months.
ICC / IP
- Must be a natural-born Filipino citizen;
- Any Senior High school graduate or graduating student whose member of an Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCS) / Indigenous Peoples (IPS) recognized by NCIP;
- Not more than 25 years old at the time of the examination;
- Student who has earned units in college may also apply;
- For Senior High School graduate applicants who completed their high school under the old curriculum, the general weighted average (GWA) shall not be lower than 75%;
- For senior students under K12 curriculum, graduating students GWA of the last 3 immediate preceding semesters of his Senior High School in any Track shall not be lower than 75% or its equivalent.

Scholarship Support and Privileges
- A full scholarship grant for college students leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Fisheries
- Free matriculation and other school fees except for dormitory fee
- P5,000 monthly stipend
- P2,000 semestral book allowance
- P3,000 OJT support
- P7,000 research/thesis/special problem support
- P1,500 graduation support
